Christmas: Part Three

We went to Nana and Gaga's for Christmas lunch and the boys got more presents.....where are we going to put them all??? Next year, could someone get the boys a shed????

Thank you all for the wonderful gifts. The boys are so lucky to have grandparents, aunts/uncles, and friends like you!!!

Christmas: Part Two

We had a WONDERFUL Christmas. The boys got lots of good things and had a blast opening presents and seeing what Santa brought. Cohen was up at 6:15 of course. Evan slept until about 7:30. My camera is on the blink and I didn't get as many shots as I had hoped. Here are a few.

Cohen checking out his stocking...he got a Coke inside and was thrilled. He wanted to drink it right away.

Cohen, Evan, and Jeremy checking out one of Evan's toys.

Cohen left oranges and carrots for the reindeer.

Update!!!!!!

Just getting ready for Christmas around the Day household. We are a little behind schedule with the wrapping and decorating. Jeremy finally put up some lights tonight (the day before Christmas Eve). Cohen kept saying "I wonder why we don't have Christmas lights. I really like Christmas lights" so I guess Jeremy finally got the hint!! They look really nice and we can enjoy them for a few days. I guess we could look at it as "saving power."

Anyway...we took Evan to the doctor Monday for his 6 month check up. He is 26 inches long (which is long) and 18 lbs. 14 oz (which is big)!! He is growing well and is a happy, healthy baby. Well, overall. He did get diagnosed as having RSV which is an upper respiratory infection (cold) and bronchitis in babies. It is really contagious but kids and adults will just get a cold. It is scary for babies because it can turn into pneumonia, ear infections, more severe bronchitis and all kinds of stuff. He is on a breathing treatment and steroids 3 time a day to open his airway and clear out all that junk! I am sure the 70 degree weather one day and then 19 degree the next didn't help! So, if you come near....take your chances of catching a bad cold. I am still kissing him all over and taking my chances! He is just too cute not too.

Cohen reminded us today that he told Santa he wants a lamp and blueberries. Neither of which Santa has yet, so Santa needs to get busy making that lamp and picking some blueberries!! That boy is funny! I don't know where he thought of those two things, but he has not forgotten!

Jeremy and I are excited about Christmas! It is our favorite time of the year just like the boys! We get all giddy and excited about the cookies, gingerbread houses, lights, etc! We wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Cohen......

While driving down the road, Cohen kept saying time after time...."oohhh look at those lights Mama, ooohh look at those lights Mama, ooohhh I like those." Every time we passed a house or sign with Christmas lights he would say something about it. EVERY. TIME. Although, I was happy to hear his enthusiasm about the holiday...it was beginning to really get on my nerves! BAD!! So after the 100th time, i told him to just say it in his head. So his next comment, just as loud as the previous ones had been was...."Ooohh look at those lights, head. Head, do you like those lights." FUNNY!!!

Cute picture!!!!

Sticking out his tongue is Evan's cute new "thing." He sticks out his tongue all the time. When he smiles.....he sticks it out. When he laughs....he sticks it out. When he is thinking and playing and even eating....he is sticking out his tongue. We think it is so cute!! Here is a picture!

6 months!!

Evan's 6 month birthday was yesterday! I can't believe how time has flown by. He is such a joy to have around. Always smiling and laughing at everyone and everything. He definitely loves mommy and daddy. He will be sitting perfectly content in his swing, excersaucer, etc. and when he sees Jeremy or myself--that's the end. He yelps for us to get him and carry him around. He loves to see the world from "way up high" instead of his short man view. He rarely cries and just lets us know that he needs something by making noises or banging his hands on the ground or seat or whatever he is in. Last night I was holding him right before bed and he was just staring at me. I tried not to look at him because every time I did, he'd make a little "gotcha" smile. It was SOOO cute. Jeremy and I were trying not to laugh. Anyway, I tried to ignore him because he needed to go to sleep, so he starting knocking his head into my chest and when I would look he would just smile. It was so cute how he was trying to get my attention.

He FINALLY rolled over on purpose. He did it on the last day that he was 5 months old!!! A little late, but rolling over all the same!!! One way mind you, but still, we were very proud. We all clapped and Cohen cheered from the bath tub. It was kind of weird, Cohen didn't even see him do it, but I said "yea Evan" and Cohen said, "did he roll over?" I don't know how he knew. Anyway, he barely made the cut off that "they" have. I was getting a little worried, but decided I enjoyed him being a baby even longer.

He goes down at night somewhere between 7 and 8 and sleeps until 7 in the morning. When he wakes up he just talks and looks around his room until Jeremy or I go get him up. Sometimes Cohen goes in for a morning visit before we can get in there and that just makes Evan's day. He starts kicking those legs and banging his hands on the bed. Cohen says "good morning Buddy, I'm here." It is so sweet and I just love watching them on the monitor. Evan has started "grabbing" Cohen's shirt when he wants him. If they are laying down together on the floor, Evan rolls on his side and grabs Cohen shirt and pulls himself closer. It is so funny. How does he know to do that??

He is eating dinner which consists of rice or oatmeal, sweet potatoes, apples, bananas, sweet peas, or carrots. He has some cereal and 1/2 jar of veggie and 1/2 jar of fruit each night. His favorite is by far bananas. He grunts and chomps if i don't give them to him fast enough. He doesn't care for peas too much but I can't blame him. I gag when i open the jar too. He has to have his greens though!!!!

He still loves to be bundled up at night and zipped up in a blanket bag. I hope they make those things for 2 year olds!!! He also still have his rigged up fleece crib sheet which is a blanket tucked around the edges.

He is sitting up supported and can "tripod" sit for a second. I am trying to snap a picture, but he topples over before i can get the darn picture taken! P.S.---I NEED a new camera!! Please tell Santa!

Well, that's an update on my 6 month old!! He is a pleasure and I just melt for those beautiful, blue, sparkling eyes every time he looks at me and smiles. Hence the reason the likes to be carried all the time!!!!

Family Fun Day

Jeremy and I finally had a day off on the same day so we decided to have a family fun day. I should say Family Fun-filled Day. We left at 9:00 (which is early for us) and got home at about 6:30. We had soooo much fun spending together. We started out by going to the Children's Museum so Cohen could play like Bob the Builder and fix leaky pipes, build walls and fences, and explore lots of other things. We then rode up to Lenox to ride the Pink Pig and visit with Santa. We didn't get any pictures because although the Santa looks really good, the background is hideous. It is bright pink and turquoise. We had some pictures made with another Santa so we weren't too upset. Cohen told him he wanted a new lamp. Santa might be ready to call DFACS on us. Last year Cohen told the same Santa that he wanted a pillow!!! Where does he get this stuff. He has several pillows and a new lamp. Geez! Santa probably thinks we're nuts!! Anyway, so we visit with Santa and then do some shopping. The boys were great and behaved so nicely. They fell fast asleep on the way home and mommy and daddy got to chat like real grown ups while sitting in Atlanta traffic! What a nice day!

Who knew I could turn into a popscicle???

We went to the Christmas parade tonight. It was COLD! I don't mean "wear a jacket" cold. I mean wear three layers, get a jacket, put on your gloves, pull up your hood, wrap in a blanket (or two, or three) COLD!

I knew we were planning on leaving at about 5:00 so I have the day planned accordingly. I perfectly time the boys nap so they will be well rested and happy. I put them down about 2 hours before we were going to leave. They didn't fall asleep until about 45 minutes before we were leaving. So of course that means I have to wake them up from their naps. Well, like his mommy, Cohen gets REALLY grouchy when someone wakes him up. When he finally decided he wanted to go and would put his clothes on we were set. You see, I wanted him to put on his long pajamas (like thermal underwear) and then put his clothes on top. "People don't wear their pajamas under their clothes" according to my darling 4 year old. It just isn't right. We argued the point, he took off the pj pants, I put them on, he yelled "it isn't right", I threaten to call Santa, he puts his hands on his hips and turns his back to me, I said we won't go then, and he finally gives in.!!! I LOVE winning!! Anyway, after the battle, I am rushing to get this and looking around for that. I am finally ready after going back into the house 2 times for forgotten things. And we are off! WITHOUT.....a coat. I forgot my coat!!!!!! The boys were warm and toasty all night, but mama froze!!!

The parade was nice but I was COLD!!!!! I watched the end from inside the car!

Cohenisms......

I asked Cohen what he had for lunch and he said a hot dog. I told him he always eats hot dogs and that one day he is going to turn into one. He let me know rather quickly that "people can't just turn into food, mom! That's impossible!" So literal......

Cohen saw some blocks in my classroom that he wanted to bring home to play with. The kids use them daily for math so I told him that they had lots of germs on them and that I needed to wash them with bleach first. (Yes, I am a germaphobic) He said "what is bleach" and I told him that it kills germs. "OOOO" he says, "we don't say kill." I explain the difference and tell him what killing germs means. I then tell him to put the blocks in the sink and I will clean them shortly. He goes into his bathroom, turns on the water and says "mama, I killed the germs. I put water on them and when you say water like this, 'wazu', that is Spanish for bleach. So I killed all the germs for you, ok. Now, can I play?" ***In case you are ever in Mexico and need some bleach...just ask for "wazu."

Praying for Snow

Cohen has been wanting to make a snow angel for weeks. We were driving down the road the other day and he mentions again that he wants to make a snow angel. I told him that we might get some snow this year because it has been really cold. He says "well, when it snows here we just get a little bit on the grass and I need alot to make a snow angel." He said "I will pray for alot of snow" and I told him that is great idea. All of a sudden from the back seat I hear this gigantic, ear shattering, yell....."GOD" he goes on..."I WANT ALOT OF SNOW OK?"!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean he is hollering soooo loud. I remind him that it is not nice to yell when you are in the car because it could startle the driver. (I about ran off the road.) He says "well I have to pray for some snow." I told him that God can hear him even if he just whispers. He looked at me as if I were crazy and let me know that "God was WAY up in the sky and if he was gonna hear him he had to holler." So Cohen hollered to God for some snow and I tried to stay on the road and block out the yelling in the back seat.

Happy Thanksgiving to All of YOU!!

We want to wish all of you, the important people in our lives, a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Traditionally, on this day we try to remember all the things in our lives that we are thankful for. Why do we wait for just this one day?? I wish we would say more often what we cherish in our lives. Our family is thankful for many, many things. I wish I could name ALL that we are thankful for this year! In this troubled time in our nation, I feel blessed to have so much to be thankful for. Although our blessing are too numerous to name, here are a few.
We are thankful for:
1. God
2. Each other and the happiness that we each bring to our home
2. Our family that is so sweet, loyal, and giving
3. Our friends that are always there for us to talk to (mostly about our family) he, he!
4. Our jobs that we enjoy going to each day
5. Our comfy house full of love and good things to eat!
6. Cohen says he is thankful for his friends at Grandmas, his sweet brother, and his bathtub (okay so I guess he changed his mind about not taking a bath :) YEA!)
7. Evan is thankful for his Pooh blanket, his bottle, and the rocking chair (we think)

And...the Internet of course so we can keep in touch with all of you through our blog!!!

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!! Gobble, Gobble!

Cohen checking his email.....

Nothing new here...

Nothing exciting happening around the house these last few days. Plain ol' boring normal life stuff........

Evan has a little cold. He doesn't seem to feel too bad except he can't breath and keeps sneezing. He is still laughing and smiling though!

Evan LOVES to be warm and cozy will sleeping. He will not sleep otherwise. We put him in his beloved footed pj's, zip him up in a "bag", and have to put a fleece blanket on his bed. "The books" say not to use blankets so we tuck it ever so tightly around the edge so it doesn't slip out. The no blanket thing is hard because the kid has to put a blanket over his face to fall asleep. When he is good and asleep, we tip-toe in and remove the blanket and try not to wake him. Did I mention that the boy is SPOILED!!!P.S.--- I am on the lookout for fleece crib sheets so if anyone knows of any, let me know!! Oh yeah, I guess we need bigger "bags" too. His little feet have reached the end and he can't stretch out because he is getting so tall!!

Cohen and I have a dentist appointment today and then we are going to head to lunch with the sis. And probably Dr. Single (I think Cohen has his first crush. At least he has good taste! Educated and pretty!)

Cohen has made up a new game. "Match" He tells you the pictures and you draw a line to match the pictures..in the air. I guess a better name would be "Air Match." I can't see the pictures and always match them up wrong. He get so frustrated and Jeremy just laughs and wonders how someone can get "air match" wrong. I don't want to play anymore!!!

No school this week so I am home all day with the kiddos! ALL. DAY!!!

We are excited about Thanksgiving and ready to pig out on some turkey.

That all folks! Cohen has informed me he needs to check his email so he needs the laptop. Tootles!

How old is this kid........

A few funnies to share:
Cohen brings me my cell phone today and says he wants to give daddy a message. I dial Jeremy's number and give Cohen the phone as it rings. He tells me, "No hang up! I don't want to call him, I want to send him a text message." Since when did 4 year olds know how to text someone??

We were driving down the road listening to the radio......my song for a change and a good one comes on. Cohen says from the back seat "Yea, this song ROCKS turn it up!"

Turkeys Making Turkeys

The best part was eating them! YUMMY!!!
We made turkeys out of oreos, whoppers, M&M's,candy corn and icing. Cohen and Jeremy kept eating all the oreos before we could get them done. The funniest part was after Cohen ate one he told me, " I ate the whole thing. I even ate the coconut." We didn't use any coconut so I was a little confused. He said the coconut was the brown thing with the milk in the middle--the whopper! We had a fun time and the turkeys were yummy!

Evan after eating squash!

Evan just finished eating dinner. Cohen is giving him a little after dinner entertainment. He always thinks Cohen is so funny!

Cohen's latest decision

I was already thinking that maybe Cohen was going to be a vegetarian because he has never eaten meat...even as a baby. He has never liked it and now he will tell you..."I don't eat meat." Well... things are beginning to become even more clear. The other day he told me he didn't want any eggs. I reminded him that he likes eggs. He said "yes, I do like eggs, but people shouldn't eat baby birds." Ok, so he's an animal lover, so what?

Tonight.......he told me he did not want to take a bath. I said he needed to and he said, "well, mama, baths are not really for me. I am not going to take them anymore" What??? I told him he would get stinky and he said "it's ok, my friends won't mind." So, we are already prepared for the day he comes home and tells us he has joined PETA, grown dreadlocks, smelly from "living off the earth", and taking vitamin supplement for protein deficiency!

I told you he was a free spirit!

Typical Shopping with the Day's

We decided to do a little shopping tonight. I had to return some jeans and pillow cases and that was going to be it. Well....you know us and stores, we can't just run in and run out. What was supposed to be a minute trip turned into 4 hours of shopping and dinner (where else but O'Charley's of course-they do have "hot bread"!)

So we run to Tanger where Cohen wants to push the stroller (into other people and racks of clothing) When we finally say "enough" no more pushing, he finds a "BELT HOUSE"!! "Yes!" he says, "I didn't know they had one of these here! I'm going in." He then proceedes to climb around in the "belt house" until the worker gives us dirty looks and we tell him to get out. (Hey, I used to be that person too, now a days, if he wants to climb under, in, around, through, ect. the clothes----go for it! It gives me time to look and I know where he is!) Anway, after he gets out of the "belt house" he finds the lotions. He HAS to smell them ALL!! "OOOOOO! This one smells good, smell it" We smell. He puts it down. "OOOOOOOOO! This one smells good, smell it". Jeremy and I pretend to smell each one as we are looking for clothes and trying to entertain Evan who of course is in our arms because he LOVES to be held. He got shots today too so he is not really feeling like shopping.....we keep at it anyway!!! Hey, we love new stuff too! So we sniff, shop, switch arms, sniff, shop, switch arms, on and on! We have had enough of the GAP. We pay for our items--totaling an unforseen amount of money becasue we are so distracted by the boys that we just throw stuff on the counter. And we leave.

We move on to Banana Republic and have the same crazy time until.......yep, Evan poops his pants!! There is no bathroom in BR of course so we have to go out into the freezing, cold wind, while trying to keep Evan warm and change him on the COLD leather seats of Jeremys' truck. Whew! We made it. On to more shopping......

Next we decide to go into Aeropastle (full of young people not feeling our pain) Cohen finds a "track" (i.e spaces between the crowded racks) and starts "getting some excersise!" He runs and runs! We corral him up as Evan begins getting hungry. We decide we better go becasue Cohen has also hollered for the 45th time that he is hungry! We go eat and still are not done with our torture! On to Kohl's!!!!

Of course as soon as we arrive--Cohen has to POOP! He makes sure to holler "I need to poop" so all those around us can hear. It's my turn!!!! I take him to the "family" bathroom where they have a small toilet just for kids. Cohen let's me know that it will take him about 20 minutes. Typical male! I tell him it better be quicker than that. I rush him. Poor thing. He gets done and we leave. He yells to Jeremy across the customer service area that they have a toilet in there just for "titties" Everyone looks at us of course because a 4 year old just hollered "titties" across the store. Of course we know he is saying "kiddies" They have a toilet just for kiddies! We smile and move on. Evan is grumpy and tired, Cohen is hungry--again! We keep laughing and shopping.

Finally at 7:30 we decided we have done enough damage and head for home! We arrive and I look in the bags at all my new stuff!!! What?? I bought this.......

Anyone want to go shopping with us next time???? Better yet, anyone want to babysit while we go shopping!!!

P.S. A "belt house" is a place Cohen invented. You know, where they hang all the belts and they dangle down. It's the perfect place for a kid to hide and make a house!!!

Sweet Big Brother

What an angel Cohen is to Evan. He takes good care of his baby brother. He hugs and kisses him all day. He loves to hold him and is always asking to "see him." It makes his day to give Evan a bottle. (Of course that only last for a total of 10 seconds, but still.) Anyway, this morning I overheard him whisper to Evan. "I love you, buddy. We are best friends forever. I won't ever let anyone get you, ok. (He then squeezes Evan tightly and Evan makes a little whimper) "It's ok I'm here. Don't cry."

Precious! I love that kid!

P.S. Cohen did let us know that if we get "another baby" that he will put him on an airplane to go far away. I guess one baby is all he can handle!! (No, we are not planning on having another one anytime soon so don't get any ideas!!!)

NO spells no!

I thought the "no" stage had ended. Unfortunately, Cohen is beginning to spell and has learned to spell "NO." So now, every time I ask him to do something he says "N.O. That spells no."

Me: "Cohen, will you bring me the remote, please" Him: "N.O. That spells no. I won't do it"

Me: "Cohen, come eat." Him: "N.O. That spells no. I won't do it."

I mean we go on and on like this. ALL. DAY. Sometimes, this predictable response backfires on him. Yesterday I said " Come on, let's go outside." He says "N.O. that spells no. I won't do it. Oh, wait mama, I mean I do want to go outside. How do you spell yes?"

5 months!!

What an angel!! Evan has to be the sweetest baby ever! He LOVES to cuddle. I mean he LOVES it. He wants to be held when we shop, while I cook, while we watch TV, ANYTIME!!! He loves to be rocked to sleep at night. We cuddle on the couch or in the rocking chair, read a book, have a night time feeding, and rock, rock, rock. He doses off and if he is not good and asleep when we lay him down, those eyes pop open and he wants to be rocked more!! I know what all "the books" say......don't hold them too much or you will spoil them. Well, he is spoiled and I don't care!! We love to hold him so we don't mind. He might not ever learn to walk because we will still be holding him. I know from experience that they grow too fast and he won't let me hold him before too long, so I am holding him. ALL. DAY!!! He is such a loving sweet baby! He smiles all the time. He rarely cries and just makes everyone around him happy! He is such a good sport with Cohen. Cohen is always in his face, playing with (i.e.--bugging) him and he just laughs and smiles at him!!

He is still not rolling over. He can do it....he just doesn't like to do it. I think it scares him. He is trying to pull himself up to sit. He can sit up alone for a few seconds before toppling over. HE LOVES IT!! He must enjoy the change of scenery!
Right now, he loves his Johnny Jumper and his excersaucer!! He just laughs and grins.

His laugh is PRECIOUS!! He has this raspy, hoarse sounding laugh that just makes us giggle!! He kind of has a little growl to it that is so cute!!!

He is eating baby food and gobbles it up!! Right now he only has cereal, bananas, sweet potatoes, and apples. He opens his mouth wide and fusses if you don't have the next bite ready fast enough.

He goes to bed at about 8:00 at night and sleeps till about 7:30. I told you......he's perfect!!!

He has the most gorgeous blue sparkling eyes!! I could just eat him up!! We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE him!!!!

I want them in "Ones"

Cohen was having waffles for breakfast. In is stubborn 4 year old way, he told me he wanted them in "ones". I thought he meant he wanted the waffle whole in stead of in bite sized pieces(yes, I still cut it up, Randall...)I took them from the toaster, put them on his plate and sat it on the table. I told him breakfast was ready and he just stared at his plate. I wanted "ones" he reminded me. "They are ones," I say proud of myself. Well, he let me know rather quickly that this was not the "ones" he was talking about. NO!!! I wanted them in ONES!!! Ok then, I next think in my super, mind reading, mommy way that maybe he wants them in small pieces?!?!?!?! Heck, we are learning place value at school. I thought he was a genius and meant ones like tens and ones. He quickly lets me know, once again, that this was not right. I don't get it. AT. ALL!!!!! I ask him what he means...."you know, ones!" he says. Ummmmmmmmm, WHAT does he want. He gives me a clue..."you know, so i can dip it." Oh, ones!!!!! He wants them in nice, neat, straight, strips to dip in his syrup!!! "Ones", now I get it!
Still confused??????.....he wanted them to look like the numeral 1!!!!!

Race ya......

Cohen is going through a really stubborn, "I can do it" phase. He wants to do things how he wants to and when he wants to. It is REALLY annoying. REALLY. It is not so bad when I am not in a hurry, but hey, I am always in a hurry. Instead of always struggling to get him to do things when WE want him to(yes, we are stubborn too), we created a game. "Race ya!" It doesn't matter what is happening, if we say "race ya" we get our way. We play "race ya" to get him to bed, take off his clothes, get in the tub, buckle his seat, EVERYTHING is a game of "race ya." Heck, even yesterday I played "race ya" to get him to go to time out. Of course he didn't want to go, but as soon as he heard the words "I'll race ya" he ran straight to the corner! Magic!!!!

Just like Daddy!

What Jeremy does..so does Cohen. If Daddy decides he wants a glass of tea, Cohen wants one, too. If Daddy is tired, Cohen wants a nap too. Today, Jeremy decided to cut the grass. Therefore, Cohen had to get his lawnmower out and help. Jeremy has to wear a mask due to his allergies. Cohen doesn't have allergies, but of course he needed a mask too! I had to snap a few pictures because it just looked so funny! Aren't they precious! I love them both so much!

Baby Laughter

Evan is really beginning to laugh out loud. You know the laugh that makes people in the stores stop and look and everyone laughs along with him. It is absolutely precious and melts my heart every time!! His favorite person to laugh at is Cohen of course. He just cracks up whenever Cohen walks by. I have been trying to capture the WONDERFUL sound of his laughter on video, but he is also perfecting his grabbing skill. He stops laughing as soon as I pull the camera out. and is more interested in trying to grab it and put it in his mouth! Oh well, I'll keep trying. Here is a picture of his beautiful grin!

Funnies.....

Just a few random funnies from my inquisitive 4 year old:
Ants: As we drive passed a HUGE pile of red clay at a construction site Cohen looks out the car window and says "Whoa! That's the BIGGEST ant hill I have ever seen. Those ants must be HUGE!" How do you bust his bubble? I just play along and respond, "yes, they must be."

Panty Liners: Cohen was sitting on the potty waiting for someone to take care of his "I'm doooonnnne" problem (you know the one). I guess he gets bored so he starts messing with things around him. Well, he finds a panty liner in a basket next to the toilet. MY toilet, MY basket. He picks it up and exclaims...."WOW, mama this is the biggest band-aid I've ever seen. It must be for really big people, huh"...... What a mess!

Typical Male........

So as I was getting out of the shower this morning I hear the pitter patter of a little fist knocking on the glass shower door. I know it's Cohen...he is always up by 6:00am. Which is rather annoying now that the time has changed and his body doesn't realize that yet....now it is more like 5:00 AM!!! Anyway, I say good morning Cohen and step out of the shower. He says "Did you take a shower....... (isn't it obvious) I say yes... I did! He then goes on with his list of compliments........ooooooo mama you smell good." I say thank you! He then, as serious and as heartfelt as a person can be says, "even your bottom doesn't stink"......um "thank you I guess." A few moments pass and I continue getting dressed. His next "compliment" was ....."I love your blue boobie bra!" Ok..that's enough I say, go read or something!

I guess men are just born knowing how to compliment a women, huh!!!
